Exploring Novel Management Methods for Beech Leaf Disease, an Emerging Threat to Forests and Landscapes
Bartlett Tree Experts, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Rhode Island, The Holden Arboretum, Cleveland Metroparks, 2024
Beech leaf disease (BLD) was first detected in 2012 in Ohio and has since spread across the eastern US and Canada. It is caused by Litylenchus crenatae mccannii (Lcm), a foliar-feeding nematode, and can result in host tree mortality within seven years. Symptoms include distinct banded leaves, premature leaf drop, and aborted bud development in Fagus spp.
